Super City Rangers
The Super City Rangers, previously known as the Waitakere Rangers, are a New Zealand professional basketball team that competes in the National Basketball League (NBL). They play their home fixtures at the Trusts Stadium in Waitakere City. For sponsorship reasons, they are known as the James Blond Super City Rangers.
==History==
The Waitakere Rangers began playing in the top-tiered National Basketball League in 1990 and competed in six seasons before leaving the competition following the 1995 season. They subsequently joined the second-tiered Conference Basketball League (CBL) in 1996 and won the league championship that year. They continued to play in the CBL for a further 10 years before departing the league prior to the 2007 season, despite finishing runners-up in 2006.
In January 2013, Waitakere Basketball returned to the NBL following the capitulation of both the Harbour Heat and Auckland Pirates, which saw both franchises withdraw from the league. Dubbed the Super City Rangers for their return season, the club was the only team in 2013 with a 100% volunteer roster, including both players and coaches.
